The 500V series from Grasshopper is an exciting new offering at a lower price point. What changed to lower the price? The largest factor is the vertical shaft engine and belt drive instead of PTO drive on all other Grasshopper FrontMount units. These mowers are not designed to accept other attachments so that is important in choosing this model. If you have no plans but to mow with it, you will save money. If you might want to add a broom or snowblower in the future, you might want to consider a different Grasshopper model.
Another factor is the Briggs Commercial Turf engine is a lower cost engine than other Grasshopper models use. For the 2020 model year the 42 inch now has PowerFold® standard.
